Pinewood Derby Philosophy

Why do we have a Pinewood Derby? A good explanation can be found on the BSA's Pinewood Derby Training site. It looks like this:
  • Sportsmanship and good citizenship is taught by following the derby rules and cheering on friends and den partners as they race against others in the pack.
  • Personal achievement comes to any boy who picks up a woodworking tool and shapes raw wood into a sleek design. And, by learning woodworking, he prepares himself to more easily serve in the Boy Scouting's service projects.
  • Family understanding is enhanced because building a pinewood derby car puts the boy and his mom, dad, or other adult partner into a close and sometimes intense learning experience over, potentially, many hours.

Rules & Regulations:

Please refer to our Pack 528 Pinewood Derby Rules and Regulations. Your Scout's car must be in compliance with these rules in order to race.

Outlaw Class Rules: Pack 528 Outlaw Class Rules and Regulations.

Hightower Trail District Rules: If your Scout's car wins and he moves on to the distict finals, he will need to be in compliance with the Hightower Trail District Pinewood Derby Rules. Please note that these rules were published after our rules were published, but we believe them to be in compliance with each other, but ultimately it is yours and your Scout's responsibility to conform to the District's rules.

We had a great 2010 Pinewood Derby! Congratulations to Benjamin Burdette, Jake Burdette & Aidan Schroeder for their super-fast cars.

A special thanks to Dean White, Dan Manza & all of our Pack 528 leadership. Without their help it would not be possible to provide our Scouts with this invaluable experience.
