Can I pay my dues with a credit card?
Yes, you can! There is a $2.50 fee to cover the cost of credit card processing, but you can pay them with a credit card in person (just find Cubmaster Marcus Taylor) or online at: https://squareup.com/store/cubscout-pack-528.
What uniform do we need?
For weekly den and pack meetings, as well as campfires and other ceremonies, the complete “Class A” uniform is expected. This includes:
- Uniform Shirt
- Neckerchief Slide
- Webelos Colors (for Webelos only)
The hat, neckerchief, and neckerchief slide are all unique for each rank (i.e. there are separate hats/neckerchiefs/slides for Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Webelos). Pack 528 does not require the purchase of uniform shorts from the Scout Shop. You can buy dark blue shorts pants more cost effectively at local retail stores which will suffice. The official belt is highly recommended though, as achievements toward the rank are recognized with belt loops designed to be worn on the belt.
What patches/insignia do we need?
The uniform shirt should come with the American Flag patch sewn in. Additionally, you will need the following:
- Atlanta Area Council Shoulder Patch
- Red Unite Numbers: 528
- World Scout Crest Emblem
Rank badges and belt loops are provided by the pack.
Where do we get uniforms?
Uniforms are available online at ScoutStuff.org or at the Atlanta Area Council Program Center’s Scout shop located at:
1800 Circle 75 Parkway SE
Atlanta, GA 30339
Expect to spend approximately $60.00-$70.00 for uniforms and insignia.
How often do Cub Scouts meet?
Scouts meet typically every Thursday – twice a month for den meetings and once a month for Pack meetings. Some Dens will meet less often or on different days depending on the activities.
All meetings are held at University Heights United Methodist Church unless otherwise notified by
Who will be my son’s leader?
Our leadership consists of parent volunteers. Each new scouting year, the 1st graders (Tigers) will need two of their parents to volunteer to lead that group. The 2nd-5th graders will be joining existing dens with established leaders unless there are so many new Scouts that a new den needs to be formed. In this case, like the Tigers, two new parent volunteer leaders must be identified. The Pack relies on parents Ike you to help us run the Dens and Pack, and to create a safe and fun organization for our sons. All leaders are required to take youth protection training and Cub Scout leader training specific to their Den.
What are parents’ responsibilities?
The way the program is designed, if Cub Scouts attend all of the den meetings and field trips, they should meet the minimum requirements for completing their rank with the rest of the den by the end of the year. Some ranks have requirements that include logging activity each day over the course of a week or a month. These will necessarily be completed at home, with the supervision of the parents. There are also many achievements and awards that won’t be completed as part of the regular den meetings. Scouts are encouraged to pursue these as their interests dictate. Completing and recording these requirements will be up to the parents.
Should I stay for meetings?
If your child is a Tiger (1st Grader) at least one parent is required to stay with the scout and participate in the program with your son. For all other Cub Scouts, parents are welcome and encouraged to attend den meetings to assist with the meeting and to help maintain discipline within the den, but parent’s are not required to attend. If you choose to attend please refrain from chatting or using electronics that may be a distraction to scouts or their leaders.
Families are encouraged to attend pack meetings to support the Scouts when they are recognized for their achievements.
What is Scoutbook?
Scoutbook.com is an online application that Pack 528 uses to track each Scout’s advancement and awards. Typically, den leaders will record activity completed in den meetings, but parents are expected to record any activity completed at home. If you haven’t received an invitation to connect with your scout on Scoutbook, please let us know by emailing email@example.com. Please note that as Scoutbook is designed primarily as a recording tool, it may not contain the full breadth of information needed for each award. Please consult your Scout handbook and award books for individual award requirements.
